Seattle Restaurant Week Is Back And Better Than Ever!

Today marks the start of the tastiest week of the season- the triumphant return of Seattle Restaurant Week!

We here in Seattle are so blessed with an abundance of fabulous dining options, ranging from simple and inexpensive to exotic, lavish and extraordinary, which usually doesn’t come too cheap. Seattle Restaurant Week is an opportunity for people to explore many incredible restaurants they may not normally spring for by offering fabulous deals you won’t want to miss out on.

Every Sunday through Thursday from April 2nd to April 19th, over 165 restaurants across the city will be offering up $33 three-course dinners, with many also offering $18 two-course lunches as well. These restaurants range in price, type of cuisine and location, giving you tons of options to choose from, in every department!

If you are going to explore SRW (which we highly recommend you do!), remember to be patient, make reservations and tip your servers well! While SRW is a great opportunity for diners, restaurants do tend to get swamped, and the nicer and more understanding we are as patrons, the better the experience for everyone!

Seattle Officer Will Avoid Suspension if He Steers Clear of Trouble

Seattle Police Office Gary Hayes was involved in an off duty altercation last year after a brawl in Ballard, where he stepped on a handcuffed suspect. According to the Seattle Times, Hayes was referred for retraining after breaking the police department’s policies for professionalism off duty. Haye’s Seattle Police chief put him on a 10 day suspension without pay, but is not taking the situation lightly, and has made the punishment with the inclination that he stay out of trouble for the next two years.

Hayes was off duty when the incident occurred last December outside of Balmar, and ended up in a fight with three other men when he confronted a woman for taking his coat. Hayes was later charged with misdemeanor assault, which happened right around the time the Department of Justice ran an investigation that found the Seattle Police Department too often engaged in using excessive force. Best Seattle Bars to Watch the Olympics

If you’ve been keeping up with any of the Olympics this year, you’ve probably noticed that there is quite a handful of local Washingtonians representing the United States, as well as other countries at the London games this year. Our state is represented by hot shot swimmer Nathan Adrian,  Basketball Star Sue Bird, and Adrienne Martelli in women’s rowing. If you’ve been busy outside enjoying the sunshine, or holed up at work during prime Olympic hours, we’ve got a handful of local neighborhood bars that are playing the games non-stop through August 12th, so you can catch team USA in action.

If you’re in Capitol Hill the newest sports bar in town 95 Slide open from 2-2, and the bar is planning on having food and drink specials during major Olympic events such as the basketball finals. If you’d like to feel like you’re in London, hit up one of the  sister English pubs, in Ballard the Market Arms or George and Dragon (operated by the same English owner). Spit Fire and Buckley’s in Belltown will have specials during popular Olympic events, and Spitfire will be hosting a closing ceremony party, similar to the big event they had on opening night. Come on out and experience the Olympic tradition, and success of team USA with your neighboring sports fans through August 12th!

Full Tilt is Offering Free Scoops on Monday!

The weather in Seattle is FINALLY heating up as we’re nearing August, and the folks over at Full Tilt Ice Cream in Ballard will be offering free kid scoops this upcoming Monday August 6th, to show their appreciation for the neighborhood. The Ballard’s store opening has by far seen the most success, and to show their appreciation for the locals in the area, they’re offering up a free scoop day to express their gratitude from noon until they run out. The announced the free scoop day via Facebook yesterday, so if you’re in the area next week, stop on by and get your free sweet tooth on! Kickin Boot Whiskey Bar Comes to Ballard

There a new hole in the wall bar in Ballard, soon to open this month called the Kickin Boot Whiskey Kitchen. It’s going into the historic Henry Whyte Building, right on the corner of 22nd Ave NW and Shilshoe Ave NW, and serves up Southern comfort food like house smoked BBQ and fried chicken. According to their website, Kickin Boot is scheduled to open sometime in mid July. 

The bar will be on the second floor of the building, and will hold up to around 75 guests; 50 in the dining room, and 50 more on their open air patio. Along with the southern meal, guests cal choose from a hand selected list of whiskeys, cocktails, and local beer and wine! Cupcake Royale Now Offering Ice Cream!

Is it summer yet? We’ve seen a glimmer here and there, but the folks at Cupcake Royale are happy with what they can get this summer, and taking the opportunity to launch ice cream in all 6 of their store fronts.

The delectable cupcake gurus are now offering flavors such as “cupcakes n cream” as their signature flavor, and will have many other unique flavors such as their “whiskey maple bacon crack” made with locally sourced Woodinville Whiskey, and Zoe’s meats bacon, “Bonanza” made with bananas homemade brownies and caramel, burnt caramel and sea salt, and red velvet cupcake; yum! The newest store front is located at 108 pine street downtown and will open this Saturday, but until then will have a food cart outside the store front serving scoops from noon-8pm. The Ballard, Capitol Hill, and Bellevue locations will have scoops, shakes cones and sundaes on their menu, and all other locations will have pints to go.

Seattle Spoke & Food Event Tonight

It may appear to be a dreary wet morning, but that shouldn’t stop any diehard Seattleite from going out tonight  for the third annual Seattle spoke & food event! Grab your raincoat and bike to one of the participating restaurants between 6-10pm tonight, and 20% of your bill will be donated to the FamilyWorks food bank and resource center. FamilyWorks is a Seattle based food bank that intends to nourish and strengthen local families by connecting them with the support, resources, and community they need.

The restaurants participating in the event tonight seem to be spread all over the major neighborhoods in Seattle, so if you live in and around the city, you shouldn’t have trouble finding one near you. Participating restaurants include Serious Pie on South Lake Union, St Clouds in Madrona, The Shelter in Ballard, Julia’s in Capitol Hill, Stumbling Goat Bistro in Phinney, Emmer & Rye in Queen Anne, and Duke’s on Green Lake among others. Moshi Moshi

I’ve been spending a lot of time in Ballard lately, and last week after getting an intense craving for Sushi, I went over to Moshi Moshi.  I had heard of Moshi Moshi, and only good things.  I dragged a friend along (who doesn’t even like sushi) and they agreed to go simply because they wanted the signature, salted edamame appetizer.  To my surprise, the hostess asked if we had reservations.  Moshi Moshi must be considerably popular, but I cannot remember a time (ever)that I’ve needed to make reservations for sushi.   The ambience was great, and the tables were candle-lit.  The room was filled with soft light coming from the Japanese Sakura tree adorned with LED lights (pictured).  When I ordered my drink, I noticed that specialty cocktails were expensive, and I settled for PBR in a can.  I only specify the container because that’s how it was listed on the menu.  At $3.00 a can, it seemed like a good deal.  We ate are edamame and I ordered the Crunch Roll first, which was absolutely delicious.  A black board behind the chef at the sushi bar had daily specials listed, including a spicy salmon roll (my second order) which had the perfect amount of heat . A couple of the hot plates looked good as well, but I didn’t order as I felt that spending $40.00 at dinner that night would leave me regretting my visit.  All in all, the ambiance and food were good and I would definitely go again.  If you’re in the neighborhood and in the mood for sushi, stop by Moshi Moshi.
