Local Musician’s Guitar Stolen Out of Car on Market Street

It’s a very sad surreal day for Mark Pickerel, a prominent musician in the local music scene best known for his presence in bands such as The Young Evils, Screaming Trees, and the Tripwires. The 1960’s Washburn Prairie Song guitar that he has composed every song he’s ever written was stolen out of the back seat of his car around 12am this morning in Ballard, on the corner of NW Market Street, and NW 24th Street. guitar

Kickin Boot Whiskey to Open Next Thursday

As we’d mentioned in a previous article, the folks who run the Matador restaurants are opening another restaurant, but leaving the extensive Tequila list at home; Kickin Boots Whiskey in Ballard will open next Thursday, catering to all the dark liquor and BBQ lovers in town! The building owners told the restaurateurs to keep as much of the original building as possible, and they catered to the request by keeping the original ceiling and floors in tact.

Kickin Boot has an outdoor patio that seats 50, all ages dining area, and a wrap around bar with a Southern touch. The patio has heated floors and a pull down garage door perfect for Seattle’s unpredictable weather, but according to My Ballard, the owners hope to keep the patio open throughout the summer. Ballard’s Art in the Garden Festival is Coming

It’s here! the 12th annual Art in the Garden Festival is coming to Ballard in August, located at the Ballard P-Patch at 8527 25th Ave NW. Bring your family and friends down on August 4th from 10am-6pm for a fun-filled free afternoon with live music, food and beverages, and local artwork!

Proceeds from the event will go towards future garden projects, such as creating gravel paths in between garden beds, and filling container beds with greenery. The Ballard P-Patch has over 90 plots, and 4 of the largest plots are specifically grown and donated to the Ballard food bank. Golden Gardens Yard Work Party Tomorrow!

Tomorrow at Golden Gardens Park, Green Seattle Partnership will host a forest restoration work party to help clean up the area. The weather forecast for this weekend is sunshine and blue skies, with a high of 74; perfect weather to be working outdoors! According to

Ballard-based Groundswell NW, volunteers are needed between 10am to 2pm, and duties will include removing various invasive plant species from the grounds. Earthcorps will be providing all of the necessary equipment, gloves, and positive attitudes to get the job done; and will also be offering light refreshments for their appreciation.
