Free Self Defense Classes in Ballard Next Week

Next Week Umpqua Bank and Fighting Chance Seattle are teaming up to offer free self defense classes to the neighborhood. The class will be taught by Fighting Chance Owner Jordan Giarranto, and the workshop will include a demonstration of advanced fighting and self defense techniques from martial arts Muay Thai kickboxing to Tang Soo Da karate. The class will be held next Wednesday Jan 23 from 6-7pm at Umpqua Bank on Market Street, and is open to everyone interested in learning more about safe self defense. For more information visit Fighting Chance Seattle.

Ballard Lofts Design Review Board Meeting

Interested in learning more about the Ballard Lofts project? There will be a design review board meeting for the 72 unit apartment complex proposed for the corner of NW 65th and 24th Ave NW on January 28th at Ballard High School. In recent months, the project has been a  hot topic around the neighborhood, as it will be replacing the long standing Viking Tavern. ballard lofts

Bill Parks, the building developer will be leading the discussion at the meeting beginning at 6:30pm, and present the proposal to the community,  and will also go over priorities presented at the previous meeting. The proposal for the project includes 25 additional residential units, and 3,665 sf of ground floor retail space, as well as parking for 36 vehicles below ground. No Weekend Plans? Get Friendly With Deadliest Catch Crew & Artsy at the Ballard Art Walk

Having trouble coming up with new and exciting things to do this weekend? We’ve got the scoop! First, if you’ve missed previous opportunities to meet various members of the popular Discovery Channel series Deadliest Catch, some of the crew members are headed to Ballard Brothers on Saturday to support their month long food drive. The crew will be available to sign autographs and meet fans at their restaurant this Saturday from 11am-3pm. At this time they will continue to be collecting non perishable food items so bring your canned goods, and come meet the guys! deadliest catch

If you’re not feeling fishy, there is also the Ballard Art walk going on this weekend, on Saturday. The walk is from 6-9pm and will be showcasing paintings sculptures, glass art, among other creatives and will be showcased in venues from Leary Way to Shilshole.
